Every company has a date of incorporation. But some stories begin long before one. Ours begins with a name.
He was our grandfather, a visionary and a man of principles. Over the decades his name became more than a family name. It became our legacy, our trust, and the foundation of a brand built across generations for more than half a century.
Long before MMT Acoustix existed, before factories, acoustic laboratories, international markets or online stores, there was a small automobile spare-parts shop in Agra.
The business was simple. Buy well, understand the market, build relationships and sell honestly. It was purely a trading business serving the replacement automobile market. There was no grand vision written on a wall. There was simply the desire to build something meaningful.
Four moves, repeated for four generations

A small shop, and a name to live up to
A single automobile spare-parts shop serving the replacement market. Buy well, understand the market, build relationships, sell honestly. Nothing about it suggested what would follow.
The first leap into making things
Travelling across India exposed Mahabir Prasad Jain to industries and materials far beyond the family shop. He saw an opportunity in a material still new to the Indian market: polyurethane foam. He began trading it, then stopped trading and started making.
Using that foam with high-quality fabrics, the company began manufacturing two-wheeler and cycle saddle covers. It started with two sewing machines.
The product worked, demand grew and customers came back. Two machines became ten, then fifty. In 1979 the company became an ancillary manufacturer of saddles to Hero Cycles, its first relationship with a large manufacturer and the beginning of a pattern that would define the decades after it. By 1980 there were roughly two hundred machines.

Leaving behind what already worked
The saddle-cover business was successful and running at real volume. Continuing would have been the easy decision. S. K. Jain wanted to move towards more technical products and more specialised manufacturing, so the family left Agra for New Delhi.
They lived in a small, box-like apartment in Karol Bagh, a dense old quarter of central Delhi, while trying to establish the next chapter. There was work, uncertainty and ambition. Over time, S. K. Jain would acquire the entire block where Mahabir Multi Tech stands today.

Learning before manufacturing
A Belgian company was supplying air-filtration media made from reticulated foam into India. Rather than entering the market without understanding the technology, S. K. Jain learned the manufacturing process and the application first.
Production began in India in 1991, initially using specialised raw materials imported from Belgium and the United Kingdom.
By 1995 the company had become an OEM supplier to Varroc and Kiran Udyog, at that time the largest air filter manufacturers in the country.
The conversation that changed everything
Around 2000, during meetings with Kirloskar and Sudhir Generators about air filters for generator sets, the conversation moved to another requirement in the genset industry: fire-rated acoustic foam.
It was unfamiliar territory, so the family did what it had always done. It learned the product. Acoustic foam was imported from Turkey at first, then the material, its performance and its manufacturing were studied, and by 2003 production had begun in India. Under the guidance of Ritu Jain and S. K. Jain, the company became a major supplier to the genset sector between 2003 and 2009.
Without knowing it, the foundation for MMT Acoustix had been laid.
Taking acoustics to everyone else
Sonit Jain joined in 2011 and inherited an established company with customers, manufacturing and a successful industrial acoustic business. He also inherited something less visible: a pattern. Every generation before him had taken what already existed and asked what could be built next.
The question became whether professional acoustics could move beyond factories and generator enclosures. Whether products understood only by consultants and contractors could become accessible to ordinary customers. Years of research followed, and in 2014 MMT Acoustix launched.
It was built to develop B2B and direct-to-consumer channels together. Treatment needed to be easier to understand, easier to buy, and wherever possible simple enough to install yourself. For the music and recording community in particular, that made proper treatment considerably more accessible and affordable.

Eight brands, one method
One product was never going to define MMT. Each brand began with a problem someone brought to us, in an industry that had learned to live with it.
The founding brand, and the one that made acoustic treatment buyable by anyone. Profiled foam, panels and complete room kits, sold direct as well as through projects, with the specifications published openly so a customer could decide for themselves.
PET acoustic felt, developed when absorption started being asked to look like a finish. Solid panels, grooved and shaped profiles, baffles and ceiling clouds, in a colour range wide enough for a designer to work from.
Architectural timber, for projects where the wall is the design. Slat systems, fluted panels and diffusers built on acoustic backing, so the performance is carried by something an architect would specify on looks alone.
Mass loaded vinyl, for the problems absorption cannot solve. Where a panel controls the sound inside a room, this is the layer that stops it passing through a wall, a floor or a ceiling to the room beyond.
Launched in the middle of the pandemic, when working from home stopped being occasional and every bedroom, spare room and dining table became an office. People needed quiet in rooms that were never built for it, and could not knock a wall about to get it. Curtains treated the windows, doors and glass without construction, permission or a contractor.
Low-frequency absorption, the part of the problem most treatment misses. Dense boards and corner traps for the bass energy that passes straight through foam and collects in the corners of a room.
Developed because the installation kept failing before the product did. A spray adhesive built for the specific weight and surface of acoustic materials, so panels stay where they are put.
Wood wool, for the rooms that take a beating. Rugged textured absorption for spaces where a felt panel would not survive the first year, finished to be left exposed.
What was actually passed down
The most valuable inheritance was never a particular product. Saddle covers came and evolved. Air filters created another chapter. Industrial foam opened another door. What survived was the willingness to keep learning and keep building.
